3 areas of civil engineering walter gefrom

Are you thinking about going into a career in engineering? Civil engineering is one of the most popular branches of engineering, but within that, there are several areas you can specialize in.

As a project manager and civil engineer by profession, Walter Gefrom has a lifelong fascination with the way things work. Read on to learn more about 3 of the different specialties of civil engineering.

  1. Environmental engineering. In this field, you will be solving the most pressing issues having to do with resource management and how our structures impact the environment. Sustainability is a huge component of this field.
  2. Structural engineering. This field deals with the design of large structures such as bridges, skyscrapers, airplanes, and even residential homes. A key component of this is making sure these buildings can withstand the elements.

Walter Gefrom Classic Cars

If you love speed and can’t dream of a more stunning sight to see than rows and rows of classic car beauties, then you won’t want to miss this event!  On May 6th 2023, Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, Massachusetts welcomes everyone back for a morning of fun in the sun.  This free event will feature custom cars and entertainment on the track.  Cruisin’ Bruce will be there, too (as always) with a show of his own.  And of course, there will be plenty of excitement out on the race track!  Walter Gefrom can’t wait for the burnout drag races, which will take place at 1 PM sharp on the Speedway.

The best part about the Classic Car Show & Go is that anyone can enter their ride.  That’s right: for just $10, you can enter into the competition — even if you don’t have any car show experience at all.  It’s all in good fun at Seekonk Speedway.  Walter Gefrom is excited to see all 8 categories of the show, with 8 winners being awarded their own trophies.  Don’t forget: this event is free to attend.  So if you’re in the Southern New England area this May, don’t miss it!

Crusiers4Kids Annual Classic Car Cruise-In and Toy Drive

December 5, 2022 by Walter Gefrom Leave a Comment

For classic car enthusiast and vintage vehicle collector Walter Gefrom, the annual Cruisers4Kids event is a sure sign that Christmas is just around the corner! This year, the classic car event and toy drive celebrates its 30th anniversary.

Walter Gefrom Toy Drive

The Florence, S.C. community cruises on into the Christmas season every year with a little help from the Palmetto Cruisers Car Club.  Since 1992, the Palmetto Cruisers have come together to show support for local kids in need with the Cruisers4Kids show.  Although the Cruisers meet year round for different events showcasing their rides, this one particular gathering means the most.  Davy McClary, proud president of the car club, told News13 in an interview “All of our shows led to this.. [to] help the children and the families that are local.”

Crusiers4Kids is a car show and toy drive that will take place on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Highland Methodist Church.  The event will feature a full fleet of more than 100 classic cars maintained by members of Palmetto Cruisers Car Club.  An event for car enthusiasts and families alike, this show is open for all to enjoy.  The event is free to attend; however, guests are encouraged to donate a new, unopened toy.  All toys received from the toy drive will directly benefit local children in need.

As a classic car enthusiast, Walter Gefrom always looks forward to any event where antique automobile aficionados are able to display their rides!  Nonprofit and charitable events, like Cruisers4Kids, hold a special place in his heart.  These events are a testament to the positive impact that car clubs and hobbyists can have on the community as a whole.

Progressive Forms of MS and Infection Risk

October 13, 2022 by Walter Gefrom Leave a Comment

Progressive forms of Multiple Sclerosis present their own unique challenges and obstacles that are unlikely to be experienced or encountered with equivalent severity in Relapsing Remitting forms. MS Awareness Advocate Walter Gefrom shares new information from a large study that now links progressive MS to greater infection risks.

Walter Gefrom Infection Risk

There are four common forms of Multiple Sclerosis which patients find their condition categorized into upon diagnosis.  These forms all fall within two larger categories: progressive (PMS) and relapsing-remitting (RRMS).  Often regarded as a snowflake disease, symptom presentation and disease progression is faced uniquely on a sliding scale for each and every patient living with MS.  However, progressive forms of the disease generally entail an accelerated increase of disease progression and disability that is not experienced by individuals with RRMS.  Walter Gefrom has recently read a study in Germany which now points to more difficulties faced by PMS patients on a larger scale than individuals living with RRMS.  Specifically, the study discusses the increased likelihood of serious or life-threatening infections, including infections impacting the urinary tract and reproductive organs.  What was uncovered is that patients with PMS are at a far greater risk of contracting these illnesses than those with RRMS;  furthermore, they are also much more likely to face disease progression acceleration as a result of such infections, which could lead to increased immobility, disability or even death.

Okoboji Classic Cars Museum in Iowa

September 29, 2022 by Walter Gefrom Leave a Comment

Okoboji Classic Cars is a museum unlike any other. Sporting quite the assortment of automobiles in its collection, the museum is certainly a hidden gem that classic car collector Walter Gefrom believes is totally worth checking out! Gefrom features the awesome mecca of antique autos:

Walter Gefrom Classic Car Museum

The Okoboji Classic Cars museum in West Okoboji, Iowa is home to a collection of well over $6 million worth of retro rides.  Inside, you’ll find vehicles from every era in automobile history.  Some of the vehicles even date back to the Henry Ford days, which is an incredible sight to see!  Walter Gefrom is a particularly big fan of the museum’s scenic aesthetic.  Each display contains so much more than just the cars.  There is a full scene set at each corner, with visual notes that transport you back to the era each vehicle is from — even if those days were long before your time!  You’ll still be able to immerse yourself in the nostalgia, regardless of which cars you’ve experienced in your own lifetime.  Gefrom adores the beautiful hand-painted murals which depict old timey scenes from real locations in the state of Iowa.

Okoboji Museum and all of its vehicles are owned by Toby Shine.  And if you’d like to meet the man behind all this classic car magic, you’re in luck.  If you visit the museum, like thousands of other enthusiasts who take the voyage out to “the middle of nowhere” to enjoy the displays and collection for themselves, you’ll be able to find Shine there any time!  But he doesn’t care too much for that stuffy “museum” description; he embraces the place as more of a “man cave” for all automotive enthusiasts to enjoy!
